Well, let me begin – if you like Chick Lit, then read on. If you don’t, well then don’t. And don’t read the book either. Underaking Love, by Kat French definitely falls into the easy ready, take on holiday, think about nothing Chick Lit category. There are beautiful people, crazy situations and of course lots of luuuuurve.
It is not my usual choice of book, but I do enjoy the odd bit of Chick Lit, especially after I have had a run of serious books. I tend to consume them, reading them quickly to see what happens next. But then I quickly forget all about them again and move on.
The plot is your usual – boy meets girl, girl meets boy. They are irresistibly attracted to each other, but take AAAAGES acknowledging it to themselves and others – well over a “year” in the story line, before the FINALLY get together. In the meantime people and pets die (well there is an Undertaker in the story), people marry (not that we know them, but there is also a wedding chapel in the story – see the title) and babies are born (well one). And of course there is a super gay best friend who causes all sorts of trouble, though means well. All of it super outrageous and boarding on the preposterous but that is how a good (?) Chick Lit book goes, isn’t it?!
I could see this as a Four Weddings and a Funeral kind of film (especially if you cast it well with lots of gorgeous people to drool over), but as a book, it is one to read if you need a distraction (or if you love Chick Lit).
Available on Kindle – take it with you holiday, read it, don’t read it, start it, get as far as you do, finish it, don’t finish it. I am sure you won’t regret the 99p.
