Cinema is getting really quite expensive these days. The prices of cinema tickets horrify me – I do understand that they have a business to run and need to balance their costs and income, but with the prices going up and now having a whole family to pay for, going to the cinema can be really expensive and for many a unafforable.
So, how can you recreate that “movie experience” at home? Going to the cinema is NOT JUST about the film, it is much more than that. There is an anticipation and a looking forward to a small sense of occassion. It starts in the lobby, with the smell of popcorn and the big cups of fizz. Maybe you will opt for an ice cream or some chocolate treats. Then you go into the darkened room, with the hushed feeling of anticipation. What will the trailers be like? And looking forward to the film to start.
Well, I say you can recreate some of that anticipation and experience in the home! Making it special and fun for all the family.
First I would say – planned it ahead. Don’t just say “let’s watch a movie now”.. say….”Kids, how about we have a family movie night NEXT WEEK”? then you have that sense of looking forward to something. Then plan your session. Maybe get a mini fridge to chill your drinks (great fun for the kids too), make fresh popcorn – ask who wants salty and who wants sugary? Create a cozy film watching area with blankets and pillows and dim the lights. Let the kids watch the trailers on the DVDs too, just like at the cinema and then all hunk down together and ENJOY the movie!
In some ways you could say it is better than the cinema, as you can talk openly without fear of disturbing others and you can easily nip out for a comfort break if need be!
