I am always on the look out for somewhere new to go out for a nice Sunday lunch or evening meal for the girls. So it was nice to be asked along to the Crown & Anchor in Chiswick to sample their new menu and ooh and aah at their new decor.
Recently refurbished, it has a comfortable but smart looking feel – somewhere for nice food, but relaxed enough to take the kids.
The staff are attentive and friendly and are very child accomodating and friendly. With plenty of smiles, high chairs and some pens and colouring sheets.
As to the menu. It carried the standard pub grub, but a bit better. My husband would have been quite envious of the delicious meat platterto share, and even more so of the hand made scotch eggs (I have to say, I would never have ordered the scotch eggs, but they were simply the best thing I have eaten in a pub environment in a long time. And something I would trek to Chiswick for especially – I should have taken some home in a doggy bag “especially for him”).
The prices are typically “London”, so don’t expect a cheap eat, but a typical London meal out, where a meal for two, easily sets you back £70-80, depending how much you like to drink and whether you eat 2 or 3 courses.
I had very good “fish and chips”, but also a taste of my friend’s Gnocci, which were DELICIOUS (I wish I had had them!!). And the puddings look delicious – but unfortunately we had to run to avoid parking fines and to collect children from schools.
A nice place to go for a coffee too – hope to see a nice coffee/ cake deal coming my way!
Disclaimer: we invited along to a complimentary lunch.
