Now this is an interesting review.. I am PRETTY CERTAIN that the friend that I went to see this with, intended on a completely different film. I just went along, expecting a comedy and a man in a wheel chair. I got the Iranian revolution and the hostage taking of the American embassy in 1979/80. Mmmh, funny how you experience a film completely differently when you have 100% zero expectations. As yo
u can imagine it was all pretty “hard core”, but I really enjoyed it.
Over to the film info and the synopsis:
Film Info:
- 120 minutes
- Directed by Ben Affleck.
- Starring Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Taylor Schilling, Kyle Chandler, John Goodman, Zeljko Ivanek, Alan Arkin, Clea DuVall, Tate Donovan and Victor Garber
The Guardian hailed it a comedy. Which confused me a bit (yes, I can see the comic element to the plot…). But apart from the “Sci Fi movie crew being on location” and a couple of “funnies” out of Hollywood. But I was gripped. I would be more likely to put into the Drama/ Thriller category. But then I am not really a Guardian movie boffin. I am just me and I like to watch movies and don’t really over intellectualise these things! If you want thrilling, gripping entertainment. If you like Ben Affleck then this is for you (I was actually surprised that Ben Affleck direct this film, as usually his films are a bit naff, not this time).

So… my overall ratings:
Would my husband like this film? I think he would!.
Likeability of characters – 9/ 10 (have to confess, I rather adored Ben Affleck in this and the supporting cast is brilliant and believable)
General story line – 9/10 (how can you beat a true story? Though of course you are always left wondering which bits are really real)
The Ending – 10/10 (not predictable it’s based on a true story, can only have a 10 out of 10, surely?)
Overall? Yep. Go see it. I loved it. (That is if you like a bit of excitement, a “real” 007 and political history)
