I was sooo excited about going to see “I am So Excited” (“Los amantes pasajeros”), cheapest as the previews made it look really quirky and fun! And I am great fan of foreign language films that make it main stream. Yes, it was quirky and yes, I guess it was funny, but overall I thought it was a little disappointing and even a bit naff… and the jokes just too sexual (in an unnecessary way).
- 90 minutes
- Director – Pedro Almodovar
- Stars – Javier Camara, Pepa Charro, Lola Duenas with a brief intro from Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz
A flight is destined for Mexico, but shortly after taking off, the pilot realises that the landing gear is jammed and that they will have to stay make an emergency landing in Spain. In order to cope with the stress of the perilous landing (and flight), the economy class stewardesses have drugged everyone to make them sleep, whilst the first class stewards (all stereo typically gay) decide to get every drunk and high on amorous making drugs. Well.. I think you can piece together how the rest of the flight goes.
What did I think? Well.. I think overall, the characters and casts where not too bad and sort of fun to watch. But it simply was over the top. And it was that over the topness that made the film not particularly good. Yes, it was “entertainment” for 90 minutes or so. But certainly nothing to write home about (nor as a matter fact and I am only writing about it, as I have expenses to submit to the tax inspector). A shame really, as the trailer was quite promising!

My overall movie rating for I am so Excited:
Would my husband like this film? Possibly. I guess there was enough toilet humour in there for him.
Did my friend like it? No, not much.
Likeability of characters – 7/10 (I did quite like the characters in general)
General story line – 5/10 (the emergency landing part fine, the antics that went on, not fine)
The Ending – 6/10 (well, I guess it ended well – like a “feel good movie” should)
Overall? I thought I was disappointed in the last film, but I enjoyed that one more! Sigh.
