Peppa Pig's Treasure Hunt (Theatre) - Theatre, Books and Movies

Well… what a LOVELY treat we had today! The lovely PR for the Peppa Pig stage production sent us some theatre tickets so that The Girl (3) and I could go and see for ourselves how utterly fabulous it is!

The Story:

Peppa and her friends go on a treasure hunt. They find clues, that the audience helps solve. They sing songs and then finally they do find the treasure.

I really didn’t think that I (the parent) would like the show. I do like Peppa Pig, but I was worried that this was going to be some glitzy over the top, down you throats, commercial productions. It wasn’t. It was simply adorable.

Peppa and her friends were large hand puppets held by actors dressed in black. The actors didn’t distract at all and it worked really well. They were great at the voices and were a really amiable friendly “lot”. Right from the start there was good audience participation, with a “they are behind you” here and a “harr harr” there. For young kids who don’t necessarily get “panto”, this is a lovely way of introducing the great British classic Christmas idea. Lots of singing, talking to the audience and joining in.

My daughter was totally mesmerized. There was a bus ride, a train ride, a ship ride and even a hot air balloon ride. They went to the mountains and the woods and the seaside. The seaside experience with star fish and sea horses was particularly magical.

Then when you thought things couldn’t get better, Father Chirstmas himself arrived AND IT SNOWED. Simply wonderful. Happy child. Happy mum.

Overall Rating

Would my husband have enjoyed it? Tricky one.. he *may* just thought it was ok and nice for the children.

Did the kids at the theatre enjoy it? OH YES THEY DID! Would my son (almost 5) have enjoyed? Mmmmmh, I think he would have pretended not too, but secretly really liked it!

Likeability of characters – 9/ 10 (the puppets are adorable, the voices are great, the cast is lovely)

General story line – 9/10 (simple, cute plot)

The Ending – 10/10 (oh my goodness, going at Christmas means you get a Christmas BONUS – SANTA MAKES AN APPEARANCE!!)
